How to Install Mods & Addons on Minecraft PE 1.21

Published: June 27, 2026 ยท 4 min read

Modding Minecraft Pocket Edition (now known simply as Bedrock Edition) is drastically different from Java Edition. Instead of .jar files and mod loaders, Bedrock uses official "Add-Ons" packaged as .mcpack or .mcaddon files. Here is how to install them on mobile devices.

Android Installation

  1. Download a mod file ending in .mcpack or .mcaddon.
  2. Open your File Manager app and locate the downloaded file.
  3. Tap the file. Android should automatically prompt you to open it with "Minecraft".
  4. Minecraft will launch, and you will see an "Import Started" banner at the top of the screen.
  5. Wait for the "Successfully imported" message.

iOS Installation

  1. Download the file using Safari. It will be saved in your "Files" app.
  2. Open the Files app and navigate to your Downloads folder.
  3. Tap the file. If it ends in .mcpack, it will automatically launch Minecraft and begin the import.
  4. If it doesn't open automatically, tap and hold the file, select "Share", and tap the Minecraft icon.

Applying Add-Ons to a World

Once imported, the mod isn't active yet. You must apply it to a specific world. Click "Play", then click the pencil edit icon next to your world. Scroll down the left menu to "Resource Packs" and "Behavior Packs". Activate the mod in both sections, and turn on "Experimental Gameplay Features" in the game settings if the mod creator requests it!
