How to Install Minecraft Texture Packs (Resource Packs)
Published: June 26, 2026 · By Piglix Editorial Team
Minecraft's default pixel art aesthetic has a unique charm, but after hundreds of hours in-game, you might want a fresh look. Custom texture packs (officially referred to as Resource Packs) allow players to overhaul the graphics, block designs, item icons, skybox, and even UI layouts. Here is the ultimate guide to installing them on both Java and Bedrock editions.
Part 1: Installing Texture Packs on Java Edition
Java edition resource packs are distributed as .zip archive files. Do not extract the zip file! Follow these steps:
- Download your chosen resource pack (e.g., Faithless or Fresh Animations) from our directory.
- Launch Minecraft and click on Options, then select Resource Packs.
- Click the Open Pack Folder button. This opens a folder on your operating system.
- Drag and drop the downloaded
.zipfile directly into this folder. - Go back to Minecraft. The pack should now appear in the "Available" column. Hover over it and click the right arrow icon to move it to the "Selected" column. Click Done, and the game will reload with the new textures!
Part 2: Installing Texture Packs on Bedrock & Pocket Edition
Bedrock and Pocket Edition packs usually use the .mcpack file extension. Installing these is even simpler:
- Download the
.mcpackfile to your device. - Double-click (or tap on mobile devices) the downloaded file. Windows/Android/iOS will automatically launch Minecraft and import the pack.
- Once the top notification says "Import Successful", go to Settings → Global Resources → My Packs.
- Click on the imported pack and select Activate.
