Dew Drop: Watering Cans
Adding Stardew Valley inspired watering cans to Minecraft.
This simple mod adds a standard set of watering cans that are primarily used to water crops. This mod was designed specifically for the Dew Drop project and works great in any survival world, but we recommend pairing it with Dew Drop: Sturdy Farmland and Dew Drop: Daily Weather for the full experience!

Watering Cans
Bored with farmland magically becoming "watered" from being near a water block? Now you can use your own watering cans to satiate your beloved crops!
Watering Cans are made with a full bucket of water, and your material of choice, Netherite Watering Cans need to be upgraded using an upgrade template. Personally, I find this mechanic to be much more immersive and cozy.
Abilities
Iron+ Watering Cans will also have a "Super" ability, start using your watering can while crouching to charge it up and water a large area all at once! The higher tier of Watering Can you have, the more maximum charge, and the bigger area you can water!
Refilling
Don't forget you'll need to refill your watering can from time to time, simply use the can on some water to do so.
If you want your watering cans to have infinite water, you can give the item the Unbreakable tag.
Speed up crop growth
Is bonemeal too expensive and tedious for you? Watering Cans that speed up crops are a staple in modded Minecraft, so this feature can be found here too. By default, there's a chance crops watered with your watering can will grow faster!
Water in the nether?
While you won't be able to use your watering cans to start that perfect nether base right away, the Netherite Watering Can is able to keep your water from evaporating just long enough you can water your crops even in the harshest environments.
Become a firefighter!
Dew Drop's watering cans have a few special interactions with other blocks, like the ability to douse fires.
There are a few others, and we'd love to add more, so stay curious and feel free to send us your suggestions!
Config
- Change the size and shape of each watering can's ability range.
- Change the likelihood of bonemeal, including making crops always grow when watered or disabling the mechanic entirely.
- Allow use of all or no watering cans in the nether.
- Configure other special interactions, all controlled by the server config.

Compatibility
One of the strongest selling points of Watering Cans [Dew Drop] is its robust compatibility profile. The developer, coolbot100s, has worked tirelessly to ensure that this project plays nicely with the broader Minecraft ecosystem. It is explicitly designed for version 1.20.1, meaning it takes full advantage of the latest engine optimizations and feature additions introduced by Mojang.
Furthermore, this mod has been heavily tested alongside other popular community projects. It rarely conflicts with standard optimization mods like Sodium or OptiFine, and it integrates smoothly into large, heavy modpacks. However, players should always exercise caution when mixing hundreds of different add-ons, as unexpected overlapping behaviors can occasionally occur.

Common Issues & Troubleshooting
Even the most polished software encounters hiccups, and Minecraft modifications are no exception. If you run into trouble while using Watering Cans [Dew Drop], do not panic. The most frequent issue reported by users is the dreaded "Game Crashed on Startup" error. In 90% of cases, this is caused by a version mismatchβdouble-check that you have downloaded the file specifically tailored for Minecraft 1.20.1.
Another common scenario involves missing dependencies. Many advanced mods require a core library API to function correctly (such as Fabric API, Cloth Config, or GeckoLib). Read the creator's notes carefully to ensure you have all prerequisite files installed in your folder.
Performance Impact
Performance is often the primary concern for players when modifying their game. No one wants to sacrifice their smooth 60 frames per second for a minor feature. Fortunately, Watering Cans [Dew Drop] is incredibly well-optimized. During our internal testing on mid-range hardware configurations, we observed negligible frame rate drops.
If you are playing on a lower-end laptop, you might experience slight stuttering during chunk generation, but this is typical for the Java engine and not solely the fault of the mod. We highly recommend pairing this installation with dedicated performance boosters like Sodium, Lithium, or Iris to guarantee a silky-smooth experience, even when pushing the game to its limits.
